Fall, Football, and Friggin' TV

Yep, Fall is here.  I am not so sure that I am really ready for it but it doesn't matter, there's not a thing in the world I can do about it.  Well, I could move to some tropical island but that comes with its own set of issues.  Today was a beautiful day.  The biggest complaint I had with it though was the temperature.  70-75 degrees is nice.  65 is a little cool for me. To be truthful, I dislike cold weather very much.  I guess I'm getting old because the cold weather and even approaching cold fronts make my bone and joints hurt.  Such is life though.  If the weather would stay like this from now until Spring it would suit me fine but alas, I know winter is approaching.  I have heard all kinds of nasty rumors about what kind of winter we will have here.  I have heard that it will be worse than last year.  If so, that really sucks because last year was horrible with all of the snow we had.  I hope they are wrong.  Either way, we kicked off fall with a pot of gumbo for supper.  That definitely helped to nudge the thoughts of Winter out of my mind.

Of course with Fall comes football.  Football is a multifaceted thing around here.  During the week there is high school football which includes after school practices and games.  On the weekends, there is Auburn football.  Not college football, not SEC football, not NFL football, dang sure not Alabama football,  AUBURN football.  I really don't care anything about any other teams except Auburn.  That's just the way it is.  I am not a sports or football fanatic.  I'm just... me.  Anyway, back to high school football.  This year has been pretty disappointing for Corey.  He practice hard all summer and just as they were getting ready to get really deep into practice, he hurt his knee and had to have surgery.  Between the surgery and all of the physical therapy he missed about four or five weeks of the season.  Add to that a screw-up with his physical and medical release paperwork and another week missed.  After a long and heated (at times) discussion with the head football coach after Friday night's game, it looks like Corey will finally get to play in Monday's game.  I will admit that i was kind of an ass during my conversation with the coach but I felt it was justified. I really am calm and cool headed most of the time but there are times where I can be a real ass and I find that as I get older it is much easier to be that way.  I guess being that way was my way of conveying my frustrations with the whole lost paperwork situation along to the coach  I am still not happy with the coaching staff at Brewer though.  This season is like pretty much every other season from Brewer's nearly 40 year history, dismal.  I know there were a few good years in the past but they are still overshadowed by the seemingly perpetual losing streak.  The fans are frustrated by the situation too.  During every game I hear fans voicing their displeasure with the calls the coaches are making as well as the team's look of uncertainty and confusion on some plays.  Of course, the kids playing football are frustrated too.  They all want to win; who doesn't?  No one wants to play for a losing team.  I have to give it to them though, a lot of them play their hearts out every time they hit the field.  To make matters worse, the band stinks.  They play all kinds of mamby-pamby crap in the stands that is not even as exciting as watching paint dry.  Every other band I have seen in recent weeks plays all kinds of stuff that excites the crowd and gets everyone into the game.  When our band plays, everyone in the stands is asking "What's that noise?  Oh, the band is playing." or "What in the crap are they playing?"  Honestly, as a former BHS band member, I am ashamed to admit that I was in the band and I am ashamed of our band.  In recent weeks I have heard everything from "Tequilla" to "Crazy Train" by Ozzy from other bands.  I think the Brewer Band has managed to do some sort of "GO" or something a few times but only a few.  I could go on and on about my dislikes with the band.  Maybe that could be an entirely separate post sometime... but don't hold your breath.

Friggin' TV.  What the crap?  To put it another way, I hate TV during the month of October.  Most of the channels that might have something that I might be interested in watching are playing horror or similar crap all of the time.  A whole month of bad "B" horror movies and halloween flicks.  Lovely.  And, of course my family wants to watch ALL of them.  At least I have Windows Media Player, Facebook, and the Internet to block most of it out.  Only 30 more days to go...

That's exhausting... or maybe I'm just tired.  Either way, done for tonight.

Good night friends.
