Manic Monday or Sedulous Saturday
Ah the weekend.... Yeah right. Saturday almost always means a day of running around and doing things; very rarely is it a day to rest. Most of the time it is even difficult to find time to do chores around the house or yard. Today was no exception. It was nice to sleep in to 9:30 this morning but it did kind of make us behind for everything else today. It started as a typical Saturday. Go get breakfast and then go to the grocery store. We don't always get breakfast on Saturday mornings but it's at least once a month. Then there's the grocery store. It's usually Wal-Mart in Cullman. Ah yes, the Saturday freak show. People of Wal-Mart has nothing on Cullman Wal-Mart on a Saturday. After giving Murphy USA too much money for not very much gas, we were on the way home.... on the way home at 15 minutes to 1:00... and we're supposed to be somewhere at 2:00 PM. Great, just great.
Because I have been married for more than a day, I know that it takes my wife more than five minutes to change into dress clothes and put on makeup. Today was no exception. In fact is was worse than usual. She spent half an hour looking for a pair of pants that she never found. Well, that changes the whole outfit and mood. Now we have to debate what top to wear. Geez. To add to the chaos, the boys are trying to get ready too. Some days they are completely helpless when it comes to finding their clothes. Corey is griping because he can't find his belt, Alan is dressed in camo shorts and an orange-plaid button-down shirt... and we're going to a funeral visitation. After some searching, everyone is finally dressed for the occasion. No one is sporting a tie or sports coat but for us, we were dressed up. 2:32 PM we arrive at the house for visitation. So much for 2:00 PM.
As it turns out, it wasn't a big deal for us to be late. We were introduced to a number of people by mom when we walked in the door but I only remember two of their names. We aren't related so I'm off the hook... at least for those people. We walk from the kitchen and into the dining room. More people I don't know and names I forgot 30 seconds after being told. Finally, we're in the Music Room. Personally, I say it's the living room but I was informed I was wrong. We finally get to some family I know... sort of. They are my second cousins. Thinking about this, I realize I know their first names, but not their last names. I feel bad that I don't know their last names but.... I've only seen them less than 10 times my entire life. After the funeral tomorrow, I doubt I ever see them again. After a couple of hours of talking to people I don't know (and will likely never see again), walking around the yard, and staring at the walls, we hit the road, got a bite to eat and came home.
Home... hmmmm. Wow, is that what this little white house is? In the door and off with the dress clothes. Give me my shorts!!!! But wait. We only put away the cold items when we came in from the grocery store... and there are dishes to be washed... dang! Oh, and the laundry baskets are full of dirty clothes... Does it ever end??
Nah, it's just life.
